VALLEY VISTA ICS, Inc.

Rachelle Madrigal

Rachelle first became interested in geriatrics  as a hairstylist in the Leisure World Retirement Community in Laguna Hills, California.  Her clientele consisted almost entirely of elderly women living in the neighborhood.  She worked with this population for six years before moving to Seattle, Washington in 1979. In 1980 she started doing hair in a nursing home and at that time she decided that working with the elderly was her true interest.

She opened the first Senior Adult Family Home in 1984.  When Rachelle and Mark met up in 1990 they proceeded to open four more homes with the name, New Beginnings, AFH, inc. for a total of five adult family homes spread throughout the Seattle metro area. Rachelle created one of the first organized activities programs for small long term care facilities and set a standard of care that spread throughout the State of Washington.

A strong believer in the process of aging in place she made every effort to ensure that once someone moved into one of their homes, they could stay for life. Home health nurses and hospice teams were brought into the homes as needed to fulfill that goal.

She pioneered and co-founded The Autumn Years Network in 1995.  A quality assurance, training and referring network in Western Washington.  As co-founder of The Autumn Years Network, she designed many forms for adult foster care homes. She conducted home inspections, trainings, assessments and referred residents to qualified homes.

Rachelle also served as a Long-term Care Ombudsman in Cochise  County, Arizona.
